The Healing Grape
Immerse yourself in the wine experience. Literally.
Merlot or cab? Honey, you’re soaking in it. Get in on the secret of why Wine Country women look so young and smooth (non-surgically) by dunking yourself into a warm, bubbly wine bath. So okay, it’s not exactly like throwing yourself into the tanks – that would be sticky, after all. Instead, spas throughout the region are harnessing the power of grapes from stem to seed, called vinotherapy, as a tipple-free way to exfoliate, stimulate and generally perk up tired skin.
At the heart of the vinotherapy movement is Sonoma Valley’s Kenwood Inn and Spa (10400 Sonoma Highway, Kenwood, 707.833.1293). Grape-related treatments include seed oils and red wine extracts in their massages, wraps and facials. If you’re up for a deep treatment, try the Kenwood Wine Wrap ($175), where you’ll be slathered with red wine-infused clay, bundled up tight and warmed into deep relaxation. Any momentary comparisons to feeling like a bag of steamed vegetables inside the wrap melt away after a shower and a rubdown with chardonnay and riesling oil.
The recently renovated resort also offers a signature Wine Country facial ($145/$195 for 50 or 80 minutes) with a wine-based hydrating mask and wine oil neck massage.
